2008-2009 BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Barbara Steen-Elton, President, is an artist and quiltmaker with an MFA from the University of
Iowa. Her artwork is primarily drawing in dry pastel and pencil. Elton is on the
Sandisfield Arts Center's Program Committee where she is involved with the Gallery
Subcommittee.
Jean Atwater-Williams, Vice President, owns and operates BizTech Associates, LLC, a
technology consulting firm specializing in helping small businesses and nonprofits utilize
computer, Internet and telecommunications technology. She is an active member of the
Rotary Club of Farmington, CT and the Farmington Garden Club. She divides her time
between her homes in the Berkshires and Farmington. She is on the Sandisfield Art
Center's Program Committee.
Eva Blachere, Treasurer, is in business importing French tableware in Winsted, CT. She
has served as a corporator for the Winsted Health Center Foundation.
Claudette Baril, Clerk, is a Nurse Practioner in Pine Meadow, CT. Formerly Executive
Director of the Susan B. Anthony Project in Torrington, Baril has experience in program
development at the grass-roots level and is and is an active volunteer for the Sandisfield
Art Center.
Rosy Campbell is a retired elementary school teacher, past president of the Granville
Library Club and a former Granville town assessor. Rosy is also a member of the
Outdoor Space and Recreation Committee and, as part of that, she was instrumental in
getting Granville to adopt the CPA. Rosy is now part of the committee that will oversee
the spending of the CPA funds in Granville. In addition, Rosy has served on the
Granville Cultural Council for the past five years. She is on the arts center's
Development Committee.
Robin Campetti has been living in Sandisfield since the age of five. An advocate for
programs and activities for children, Robin serves on the town’s Recreation Committee
and the Sandisfield Cultural Council and is a founding member of the Friends of Yanner
Park. Robin volunteers for many community events and is employed at Carr Metal
Products in Sandisfield. Robin is on the Program Committee.
Nina Carr is Treasurer of the Secretaries, Clerks and Aides Association for the Berkshire
Regional School District and is a paraprofessional at the William Cullen Bryant Element
School. She is on the Building and Grounds Committee.
Ashley Clark recently earned her MFA at the School of Visual Arts in New York and is
involved in coordinating arts center's gallery shows. She is on the Program Committee
and is involved with the Gallery Subcommittee.
Bill Cohn is a retired college administrator and history professor. He taught European
history at Carnegie-Mellon, was assistant to the president of George Mason University
and served as associate dean of the business School at the University of Hartford. For the
past 14 years he has taught graduate courses in American Studies at Trinity College.
Cohn produces the July Forum series at the arts center and is on the Program Committee.
Val Coleman is the author of 10 plays and a book of short stories. He taught National
Housing Policy at Columbia University and served as director of public information at
the New York City Housing Authority. Coleman was press secretary for the Congress of
Racial Equality. He chairs the arts center's Building and Grounds Committee.
Susie Crofut is an artist working primarily in watercolors. She is on the board of the
Berkshire Natural Resources Council, is a member of the Steering Committee of the
Highlands Community Initiative and is actively involved with the Berkshire Taconic
Community Center. Susie is chair of the Program Committee.
Antonia Grumbach is a partner in the law firm of Belknap, Webb & Tyler in New York
City, specializing in the area of exempt organizations. She is on the boards of Teacher's
College at Columbia University, Milton Academy and Legal Services for Children.
Antonia is on the Development Committee.
Rita Kasky retired in December 2006 from her position as Development Director at
Gould Farm in Monterey and currently serves on the Farm’s Associate Board. She is also
on the board of Community Access to the Arts (CATA) and the Fairview Hospital Gala
Committee. She volunteers her time in an advisory capacity for several other nonprofits
in Berkshire County and is the SArC Fundraising Board Member.
David LeBeau is an antiques dealer and auctioneer in Sheffield. He has a master's degree
in theater design from the Carnegie Institute of Technology and was technical director for
off-Broadway theater groups. He serves in the same capacity at the art center and is a
member of the Program Committee.
Betsy Polatin is an assistant professor at Boston University’s College of Fine Arts,
teaching the Alexander Technique. Betsy has also taught at Tanglewood, Berklee
College of Music, The Opera Institute, Sports Medicine Clinics and in yoga and
meditation centers in the US and abroad. Betsy taught the Alexander Technique in a
SArC workshop this past summer and is on the art center's Program Committee.
June Keener Wink works with her husband, Walter, conducting workshops on nonviolence and peace and integrating nonviolent theory and intellectual insights through creative dance and art. The Winks received the Fellowship of Reconciliation’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Peace Prize in 2006. June is a potter with a studio in Sandisfield and is on the art center’s Program Committee where she is involved with the Workshop Subcommittee. |
