Hillary Carl

From April 26th thru June 7th, the Gallery will showcase the works of Hillary Carl of Tolland, and Jennifer Surprise of Westfield.

Hillary Carl receives her inspiration for her paintings from the beauty of the wilderness and the exhilaration of flight. Carl is currently pursuing her private pilot’s license at Great Barrington Airport.

Jennifer Surprise expresses her feelings about the modern textile industry through her fashion-inspired installations by constructing corsets with materials such as steel washers and experimenting with a silk like fabric she makes with banana peels, kiwi and coconut hair. Surprise is a graduate of the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California.

Jack and the BeanstalkJune 21: The Farmington River Elementary School Students in the Art and Literacy project will create visual images of Jack and the Beanstalk. This image was drawn by Farmington River Elementary School student, Ariana Saporito, Grade 2.

From June 28 through July 26, Samuel Clarke of East Hartland, Connecticut Samuel Clarkewill show artificial environments in response to the reality and illusion of the changing rural landscape. “Finding a harmony between the representation and the abstraction of the rapidly changing environment is the basis of my work. The eye scans across particular scenes while speeding by in cars, absorbing the blur of architecture. Visually the information is abstracted, but at the same time certain areas are interpreted meticulously.”

From August 16 through September 20, Lucinda Tavernise of Granville, MA Lucinda Tavernise will exhibit paintings showing an acute spiritual awareness of her subjects. While working, “I get to self indulge by arresting Time, reveling in sensations derived from intimately feeling every nook and cranny, sniffing every organic twist and turn, paying attention to minute shifts of hue.”

Tavernise has an MFA from the University of Wisconsin and an MA in Landscape design from Conway School of Landscape design in Conway, Massachusetts. Tavernise has taught at The Ethel Walker School,Northwest Connecticut Community College, and Westfield State College and designed the expanded Granville Town Green.

From September 27 through October 11 the SAC Gallery will present works from participants in Community Access to the Arts (CATA). “I AM a Part OF ART” features works created in CATA visual arts workshops for people with developmental disabilities.
